Prairie dogs, a herbivorous burrowing rodents native to the grasslands of North America, live in an underground colony called a dog town. They are actually squirrels, but they bark and sound similar to actual dog’s bark!
There are five species of Prairie dogs – Black-tailed (pictured here), white-tailed, Gunnison’s, Utah and Mexican.
They are excellent civil engineers and spend most of their time improving their homes and household chores. In the following weeks we will learn more about these extraordinary species.
