While loggerheads can be found across Pacific, Atlantic, Mediterranean and Indian Oceans, persistent population has declined due to continuous pollution, shrimp trawling and development in their nesting areas. They are now on the threatened species list.
In the southeastern United States loggerhead mating occurs in late March till early June and females lay eggs between April and September. The major nesting concentration in the U.S. are found from North Carolina through southwest Florida.
